No-exam life insurance

Understand who can use fast-track underwriting, the process it uses, and what the alternative pathway looks like.

Today's carriers frequently provide rapid underwriting: candidates meeting specific age and benefit thresholds get a determination based on your application, pharmacy data, driving history, and other background information without needing an exam. You might have an answer within 24 hours. Every quote displayed here notes whether the carrier expects an exam, may ask for one, or won't require one.

What it changes

No exam doesn't mean no underwriting review. Your responses will be confirmed, and policies issued based on inaccurate information may be challenged within the first 24 months. The carrier might still require an exam or blood work if their investigation uncovers questions—at which point you have the choice to move forward.

Who tends to qualify

Generally, candidates younger than approximately 60, requesting coverage within the carrier's expedited limits, without significant health conditions, and with no tobacco use over the past year or longer qualify. Some carriers will use results from a recent medical visit with lab work instead of requesting their own exam.

Should an exam be required, a paramedical specialist typically schedules a quick 20 to 30-minute appointment at your East Palo Alto home or office at no charge to you. For applicants in good health, the results frequently lead to better rates, so an exam can actually be beneficial.
